Ninth seed Maria Sakakri and 23rd seed Emma Navarro will meet next at the Indian Wells Open. The winner of this quarterfinal will then play either Cori Gauff or Yuan Yue in the semis. Maria Sakkari has already defeated Navarro this season. She won their second-round duel in Dubai and with her experience in this event, she will be confident of another win. The Greek number one has made at least the semifinals in her last two appearances here. She produced a runner-up finish in 2022 and made the last four last year. Sakkari is having a slow season considering her quality and has compiled an 8-4 record thus far. Before arriving in Coachella, the 28-year-old hadn’t won successive matches at a Singles event. She defeated Diane Parry in three sets in the last round. Sakkari has dropped one place to 10th in the live ranking.

Emma Navarro is coming off a surprise victory over second seed Aryna Sabalenka. The American defeated the world number two and former Indian Wells champion in three sets. Arguably the biggest win in her young career, Navarro will be extra motivated for the duel with Sakkari. The 22-year-old is having an excellent season and has won 18 of the 23 matches she has so far played. All 23 have taken place on hard courts. She has made the semifinals in three of the six tournaments she has participated in and triumphed in Hobart. Navarro’s win in Hobart represented her first tour title success. She has now moved up three places to 20th in the live ranking, a new career high. Before this season, Navarro had never gone past the second round at this event.
