Unseeded Rebecca Sramkova has made it to the semi-finals in Monastir where she will take on seventh-seed Lucia Bronzetti. The two will meet on Saturday and here are some stats leading up to the match and a prediction.
Bronzetti is having a strong tournament and is a huge favourite to go all the way and win it all. In 2023, the Italian debuted here and reached the quarter-finals. This year she has been able to progress to the last four, defeating qualifier Antonia Ruzic.
She won by the loss of three games, maintaining her straight sets record. Bronzetti, who has qualified for three tour finals in her career, winning once, has compiled a 23-27 record. Advancing to this round has bumped her 12 places up in the live ranking, to 74th.
Rebecca Sramkova, on the other hand, is having her best-ever tour performance. Before arriving for her Jasmin Open debut, she had never won a quarter-final tie at tour level. To earn this feat, the Slovak defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo in three sets.
The 27-year-old had to dig deep to earn the win, coming from a set down to claim her 29th victory of the season. It took her three hours and 21 minutes to get the better of Tormo, recording one of the longest WTA matches this season.
Sramkova has now leapt 25 places in the live ranking after winning 97 points this week, and is now placed 111th. This match will mark the two players’ first-ever meeting and the winner will face either Sonay Kartal or Eva Lys in the final.
