Staples Center in Los Angeles will play host to the NBA regular season opener as Los Angeles Clippers will take on champions Los Angeles Lakers. The Clippers were expected to go deep last season and were considered to be one of the most talented teams in the league. However, they were eliminated in the second round by Denver. Just over a couple of months ago, the Lakers defeated Miami Heat in the NBA Finals to secure their first championship since 2010.

The Lakers’ head coach Frank Vogel will have high hopes on his side to continue their defensive proficiency. Last season saw the Lakers finish third in defensive efficiency although it remains to be seen if the 2020 season will wear out the veterans. In their preseason finale, the Lakers ended their unbeaten preseason with a 114-113 win on the road against Phoenix. Anthony Davis led all the scorers with 35 points with a 11-for-16 shooting.

The Clippers replaced head coach Doc Rivers in the offseason by Ty Lue and the expectations remain high on this season. Last season saw the Clippers rank second in offensive efficiency and that could once again be the case this year. One worry for the Clippers is the fact that they have lost all three of their NBA pre-season games against the Lakers and the Utah Jazz. The Clippers turned ball over 18 times during a 125-105 loss at home versus Utah. Paul George scored 16 points and five assists to lead the Clippers.
