A Baltic battle beckons as England’s quest for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes them to the Daugava Stadium in Riga to face Latvia on Tuesday evening. The 11 Wolves are in fourth place in UEFA Group K, while the Three Lions are leading the current standings. Check out our match prediction below!
Thomas Tuchel’s tenure as head coach of England has been mightily impressive, as he has yet to lose a competitive match since taking over from Sir Gareth Southgate. The German tactician has led his side to five wins on the bounce in these qualifiers, and a victory in this match will guarantee their place in the global showpiece in North America next year with two games to spare.
In contrast, Paolo Nicolato has only overseen three wins in his 17 matches in charge of Latvia, two of which were against the Faroe Islands and the other versus Andorra. With five points in six games, his team cannot qualify for the World Cup directly, but still have an outside chance of earning a play-off berth. Let’s get into the key stats!

Latvia - England: Form Analysis
England have been exceptional in this World Cup qualification cycle, currently four points clear at the top of the group standings with a game in hand and with a perfect record of five wins in five matches.
The Three Lions sharpened their claws for this fixture by demolishing Wales 3-0 in a friendly last week, and have now won nine of their last 10 matches, while scoring two or more goals in eight of those games.
The visitors are also riding a five-match win streak on the road, while their only away defeat since June 2022 (excluding the Euros) was against Italy 1-0 in September 2022 in Milan.
England have not conceded a single goal in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers!
Meanwhile, Latvia have never qualified for a World Cup main draw, and a defeat in this match will bring an end to their hopes of reaching the global tournament in North America next year.
Following their 2-2 draw against Andorra over the weekend, the 11 Wolves have now failed to win any of their last six matches (D3 L3) since beating the Bishops in their first match of this qualifying campaign.
The hosts are winless in their last six on home soil and failed to score in three of those matches. They were beaten 3-0 by their upcoming opponents when they met in the reverse fixture back in March.

Latvia & England Squad Analysis
Dmitrijs Zelenkovs and Vladislavs Gutkovskis got on the scoresheet for Latvia in their last match, though the latter will likely be deployed as the lone frontman here, with Nicolato expected to go with a 5-4-1 formation.
The hosts will be without Roberts Uldrikis and Kristers Tobers due to injury, while Ingars Pulis will be hoping to be handed his first start for the national team after debuting off the bench in the last match.
“We are convinced he will be ready for Latvia!”
Those were the words of Tuchel regarding Harry Kane, who was not risked in the victory over Wales as a precaution after sustaining a knock to his ankle during Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win against Frankfurt.
Ollie Watkins started as the number nine and scored against the Dragons, but he was hooked at the halftime break for Marcus Rashford. Morgan Rogers and Bukayo Saka also got on the scoresheet in that match, while Marc Guehi notched up a couple of assists.
The England boss made several big calls by overlooking the likes of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden for this month’s WCQ, and he is now also without Jarell Quansah, who has withdrawn from the squad injured.

Our Latvia vs England Prediction
While England have been excellent in attack in this competition, what has arguably been even more impressive is the defensive solidity they have shown, as they are yet to concede a single goal.
That certainly does not bode well for Latvia in this match, who barely laid a finger on this opponent when they met in March and have failed to score in three of their five matches since then. Our Latvia vs England prediction is over 2.5 & BTTS (NO).

Bukayo Saka to score anytime
The Arsenal attacker was on the scoresheet against Wales last week, and he also netted in his last two starts for the Gunners in the Premier League, coming into this month’s World Cup qualifiers.
