Paula Badosa looks to return to winning ways when she takes on fellow unseeded player Katarzyna Kawa in the opening round in Hamburg. This is their first meeting in the main draw of a tour event. The only previous meeting between them had three sets played, and this prediction backs the same.

Kawa has witnessed a dip in form after winning just once in her last four fixtures. The Pole is coming off a second-round exit at the Iasi Open and will hope a new week brings with it rejuvenation.

Kawa, who has spent most of her time competing outside of the tour, has compiled a 23-17 record. She has registered 21 of her wins on clay courts and will start her second appearance in Hamburg as the WTA’s world number 165.

Paula Badosa had a disappointing end to her last match. The Spaniard, who has been one of the form players over the last couple of weeks, lost in the Iasi Open final due to injury.

She was forced to pull out of her championship match with Mayar Sherif in the second set. Badosa had gone into that final, her first on tour in two years, while riding a nine-match winning streak.

Up a massive 28 places in the live ranking to 65th place, Badosa will be hoping to be over the discomfort that disrupted her last match. The 28-year-old defeated Kawa when they first met seven years ago.
