Second seed Novak Djokovic's Wimbledon title defence will on Wednesday have him battle unseeded Jordan Thompson in the second round. The winner here will next play either Stan Wawrinka, Tomas Etcheverry, or Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the third round. Jordan Thompson prevailed in a grueling back-and-forth battle with Brandon Nakashima to win in five sets in the first round. The Australian came back from being two sets down to claim his fourth victory at Wimbledon in what is his seventh appearance. He has now won 29 matches with 10 of his victories coming on grass. Thompson will hope to be not jaded as he plots to secure the biggest win of his career. He is now up 10 places to 60th in the live ranking.

Novak Djokovic has won the last four Wimbledon editions. He is now targeting to become only the third player to win five in a row. If he does so, he will not only win the joint-most titles here but will also win an unprecedented 24th Grand Slam crown. Djokovic has already won the season’s first two Grand Slams. He is making his season debut on grass at the All England Club and won his first-round showdown with Pedro Cachin 3-0. The current world number two has not lost a match on grass in the last four seasons. If he wins the tournament he will assume top spot in the ATP once again.
