Australian Jordan Thompson is the eighth seed for the outdoor hard court ATP Brisbane International tournnament. He  takes on unseeded Alex Michelsen in round two. Read our match prediction below.

Thompson is the world number 26 and that's a career-high for the 30-year-old. 2024 saw him win the hard court Los Cabos Open and beat Michelsen on his way to that title. He did well to win considering the first set was lost by him 6-0.

Thompson was also runner-up in Atlanta. His last tournament was in October when reaching the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters. The Australian has fond memories of the 2024 Brisbane International. He beat Rafa Nadal on his way to the semi-finals. Thompson had a tough first round draw against Matteo Berrettini and had to come from behind to get the three-set win.

Alex Michelsen also had to work hard in the first round of this tournament. He beat Christopher O'Connell in three sets, losing the middle one. Michelsen had to go to a final set tie-break winning that 12-10.

The 20-year-old is the world number 41 and in his last tournament, reached the semi-finals of the Next Gen finals. He's also had good runs in Tokyo and Metz in the final weeks of the season.
