Two of the surprise teams of the Eastern Conference face off on Sunday in the NBA as the fourth-place Indiana Pacers host the seventh-place Orlando Magic. After an 11th-place finish last season, Indiana has seemingly found a winning formula in the early days of the 2023/24 campaign. They’ve put together a record of seven wins and four losses so far which has them sitting fourth in the conference. The Pacers are coming off an impressive 132-126 away win over the second-place 76ers and have won four of their last five overall. Key to their success has been their high-octane strategy which has resulted in the second-highest pace and highest scoring offense in the NBA at an average of 126.5 points per game. Point guard Tyrese Haliburton is the conduit and is averaging career highs in points (24.7), three-point percentage (43.6%) and assists (12.5).

The Orlando Magic are having a similarly impressive start to the season after finishing 13th in the East last year. They’ve come out of the gates with seven wins from their first 12 games which has them up to seventh in the standings. The Magic are coming off back-to-back wins over the Chicago Bulls, both games of which took place on the road. They’ve won three of their last four overall and have held their opponents to under 100 points in all three of those victories. Orlando has taken a different approach to Indiana this year as their success is built on their defensive solidity. Orlando has held the opposition to under 100 points in five of their 12 games so far which has led to them having the second-best mark in terms of opponent points per game at 105.8.
