Hubert Hurkacz will be back in action on Tuesday, facing Joao Fonseca in the first round of the French Open. The winner here will meet Pierre-Hugues Herbert or Benjamin Bonzi. Below is our prediction for the match. The first round is one of the most challenging for Hurkacz at the French Open. It is the stage he’s lost the most matches (3) at this major. Last year he had his best run at Roland Garros, reaching the fourth round. Coming from a deep run at the Geneva Open, Hurkacz will want to build on the positives. He led in the opening set of the Geneva final against Novak Djokovic but struggled afterwards and lost the match.

Joao Fonseca showed great promise in the South American clay swing early this season but has struggled on the same surface in Europe. The Brazilian has a 6-4 run on clay for the season, but most of that was achieved earlier in the year. He is coming from three straight defeats and managed just a win in the last five outings, four on clay. Fonseca is making his French Open debut, and the opponent he is drawn against is among the players in top form at the moment. It will take Fonseca some effort here, but he will bank on the fact that Hurkacz hasn’t had much rest after his last tournament.
