The Houston Rockets play host to the Detroit Pistons for this inter-conference NBA clash on New Year’s Day. The Rockets are sitting 10th in the Western Conference with a 15-15 record while the Pistons are bottom of the East with their anemic 3-29 record. Houston will attempt to put an end to their three-game losing streak after dropping games against the Pacers, Suns and Sixers, all coming at home. It was a shocking string of results for the Rockets who had previously lost only twice in 14 outings at the Toyota Center. Detroit were finally able to put an end to their horrifying losing streak which set the new single-season record at 28 games. A 129-127 home victory over the Raptors was the second straight high-level performance for the team after almost pulling off an audacious upset over the Celtics just a few days prior. Head coach Monty Williams will be hoping that his team can take the momentum gained over the last two games and translate it over into a second consecutive win. However, with a 1-15 mark on the road and a -8.4 adjusted net rating (28th in the NBA), the odds certainly seem stacked against them. Detroit ranks 28th in the league in adjusted offensive rating and is scoring an average of 110.3. Their 129 points scored in the win over Toronto was the highest points total they have achieved so far in the 2023/24 campaign.
