Hamburg welcomes Fribourg to the Volksparkstadion for this semi-final match in the German Cup. The home team have been on an incredible Cup run and is the only non-top flight team left in the competition. They beat fellow Bundesliga 2 team Karlsruher SC in the quarter finals but needed a penalty shootout to advance. Hamburg have only won two of their last seven matches across all competitions. Their league form has not been as good as their Cup form this season and are in sixth position but are just five points below the promotional spots. They have only lost three of their last 25 home matches and have only had one draw in their last 13 matches at the Volksparkstadion. Hamburg have only lost once in their last 10 matches against Fribourg with that defeat coming away from home in 2016.
Fribourg are enjoying one of their best ever seasons in the Bundesliga and are currently in 5th position. They excellent league form has rubbed off on their Cup performances as they are through to the semi-finals. They beat fellow Bundesliga side Bochum 2-1 in the previous round but needed a goal in extra time to settle the match. Fribourg have only lost once in their last ten matches across all competitions. Their away record is even more impressive as they are unbeaten in their last five matches. Fribourg have only failed to score once in their last ten matches and that was in a goalless draw with Greuther Furth.
