The quarter-final of the 2023 FIBA World Cup sees Germany taking on Latvia. The winner of this matchup earns a spot in the semi-final against the United States. It’s been a highly-impressive World Cup by the Germans who are currently the only unbeaten team in the tournament. They cruised through their group stage with double-digit wins over Japan and Finland and a close 85-82 victory over third-ranked Australia. In the second phase of the group stage, Germany recorded  27 point and 29 point victories over Georgia and Slovenia, respectively. Latvia would suffer a heavy defeat to Canada following that victory to finish with two wins and a loss. However, they responded strongly in the second-phase of the group stage with a famous 74-69 win over top-ranked Spain. A 20-point victory over Brazil secured the Latvians spot in the quarter-finals. Latvia are currently ranked 29th but have been consistently playing above their ranking. A high-powered offense has been key to Latvia’s success, as they shot 58% from the field and 48% from deep in their 104-84 win over Brazil the last time out. They rank first in the entire World Cup with an average of 13.2 three pointers made per game.
