Both of these countries have work to do to achieve a high finish in the Rugby Nations Championship. England are five points behind northern hemisphere leaders Ireland, but with this game in hand. They host Australia, who they have beaten in three of their last four matches. Our prediction is England wins on a -3.5 handicap.
The first set of games in this new tournament were played during the summer in the southern hemisphere. England won two of their three matches and now the action continues with another trio of matches to play. After this match, England will be home to Japan and New Zealand. They have beaten Australia in five of the last six games played at Twickenham.
Of those wins, all have been by at least four points. Australia really needs to win this match. The Wallabies only won one of the three matches that were played during the summer. They have lost their last two games (both against New Zealand) and still have visits to Scotland and Wales remaining in this tournament.

England - Australia: Form Analysis
England are only fourth in the northern hemisphere table after their first three matches of this Rugby Nations Championship. The summer matches played in the southern hemisphere saw them win two of their three matches. They began with a tough match away to world champions South Africa and were beaten 45-21.
England are difficult to defeat at Twickenham.
England bounced back in style with a 73-8 victory against Fiji (played in Liverpool) and then went to Argentina and won by seven points. This is their first game since that victory in South America. At Twickenham, England had won nine in a row before being beaten by Ireland in the Six Nations Championship earlier this year. Against Australia, they have won 18 of the 31 matches played with 12 losses and one draw. The last meeting here was in November of last year with a 25-7 home win for England.
Australia struggled in the first three matches of this new tournament. The Wallabies began with a narrow 33-31 home loss to Ireland. Another loss followed with a home defeat to France by 16 points. A win was finally achieved when trouncing Italy 57-10.
They have had a busy time since those matches. Australia have played seven matches with four wins and three defeats. Australia beat Japan twice and then Argentina and South Africa. Their last two matches have been against New Zealand home and away, losing both and having 93 points scored against them.

England & Australia Squad Analysis
Good news for England is that Fin Smith will be starting this match at fly-half. He has recovered from a recent calf injury and will be playing against Australia on Sunday. This will be the sixth consecutive international for England with Smith in the number 10 shirt.
Ben Curry makes his return.
Making his return to the starting line-up will be Ben Curry at flanker. He's had a torrid time with injury and will be playing his first England game in 16 months. He's going to be an important player for the English side as they try to counter Australia's breakdown specialists Tizzano and McReight.
Not so lucky is his brother Tom who was injured during training this week and will miss this Rugby Nations Championship match. Fin Baxter has only played twice since returning from ten months out injured, but he will be the loose-head prop.
Australia does have the advantage of playing test rugby consistently since the summer matches. Their last two matches though have seen 93 points scored against them by New Zealand, including a crushing home loss to the All-Blacks. Jeremy Williams will start this match at blindside flanker, rather than his usual position of second row.
The reason behind that is an attempt by the Wallabies to target the set piece of their opponents. Len Ikatu is used to playing in England as he was with Exeter Chiefs last season. He didn't play in their last match, but is fit again and will be inside centre.
England - Australia Key Points
- England have won nine of their last ten games at Twickenham.
- Australia have lost their last two matches with 93 points scored against them.
