Third seed Emma Navarro is through to the San Diego Open semis where she will face off with Katie Boulter. Navarro advanced courtesy of a straight sets victory over Australian qualifier Daria Saville in the quarters. For the American, this will be a bigger test than her opposition in the quarterfinals, where she won 6-4, 6-2. The win, however, equaled her best performance at San Diego. In what is her second appearance in the main draw here, she will be looking to go one better. Navarro has now won 15 of her 19 matches this year and has one title to show for it. She triumphed in Hobart, her first tour title and went all the way to the seis in Auckland. Her quarterfinal win also came with good tidings as far as her world ranking is concerned, and she has now moved to number 23.

Katie Boulter is having a great debut at San Diego and she will hope to take it further to the championship game. Like Navarro, she advanced to the last four courtesy of a straight sets win. She trounced a higher ranked Croat Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday to book her slot here. The Briton, ranked 37th has hit a new career high and will go into this game hoping to shock her higher placed opponent. Coming into this competition unseeded, Boulter had not gone past the second round of any tournament this season. Her win in the quarters set her on a 9-3 record, though she hasn’t dominated matters in a main draw stage.
