Fourth seed Elena Rybakina and 27th seed Victoria Azarenka have a date at the Miami Open next. They will square off in the semifinals with the winner taking on either Danielle Collins or Ekaterina Alexandrova for the title. Elena Rybakina is one win away from securing successive final appearances in Miami. The current world number four finished as runner-up in last year’s edition in what was only her third appearance in this event. With her excellent form this season as well as her dominance in this series with Azarenka, Rybakina is favoured to progress. The Kazakh, who has compiled a 21-3 record, defeated Azarenka in Dubai earlier in the year for her third win against her. Rybakina is yet to lose a semifinal this season and has won two of three finals contested. She defeated Maria Sakkari in a marathon quarterfinal showdown in three sets. The match lasted close to three hours.

Victoria Azarenka is a three-time former Miami Open champion. It has been eight years since her last triumph though and she will be eager to end the long wait. A fourth crown will see the Belarussian former world number one become the oldest female champion in Miami. Azarenka has compiled a 14-5 record and was a semifinalist in Brisbane. She also made the fourth round in Melbourne as well as the quarters in Doha. The 34-year-old is also coming off a marathon quarterfinal showdown. She defeated Dayana Yastremska in three sets with the match lasting for almost three hours. Advancing to this round has propelled the 10-time WTA 1000 level champion up seven places to 25th in the live ranking.
