Third seed Xinyu Wang is through to yet another Thailand Open semifinal and will square off with unseeded Diana Shnaider. The winner will then battle either Zhu Lin, Katie Volynets, or Wang Yafan for the title. Diana Shnaider is finally seeing a positive run after she started the season poorly. The Russian had not won a match before arriving to make her Hua Hin debut and had lost three matches. She is now through to only her fourth semi-final at tour level. The 19-year-old advanced to her first-ever tour final last season in Ningbo and will seek to at the very least achieve this again. She defeated Dalma Galfi in straight sets in the quarterfinals. Shnaider is back in the WTA top 100 at number 95 in the live ranking. She defeated former champion Magda Linette in the first round as well as Paula Badosa in her path to this round.

Xinyu Wang made the semifinals here last season. It was her second appearance at this WTA 250 event and she will be eager to not suffer the same fate. Wang is yet to advance to a tour final in her career. She has had a better start to the year than Shnaider and has won five of the eight matches she has so far contested.
