The Detroit Pistons play host to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night in this interconference NBA contest. The Pistons are 14th in the East while the Mavericks are eighth in the West with a quarter of the NBA regular season remaining. Detroit sits just a half game off the foot of the East standings with a record of 10-52. Unfortunately for the Pistons, their season will be defined by the historic 28-game losing streak which tied the all-time record. Since putting an end to that losing run, Detroit has certainly shown improvement by posting a 7-23 record. They come into this matchup with the Mavs off the back of a 118-112 home win over the Brooklyn Nets. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Detroit who are just 2-8 in their last 10 games overall. The hosts’ young franchise player Cade Cunningham put up one of his best performances of the season in the win over the Nets, scoring 32 points, dishing out 11 assists and grabbing five boards while shooting 4/8 from downtown.

The Mavericks will be looking for some consistency as the NBA Playoffs approach as they attempt a late push to break into the top six. They’re currently 35-28 in the Western Conference which places them eighth in the standings. This has them two games behind the sixth-place Suns and an automatic qualification for the postseason. As things currently stand, Dallas would have to pass through the play-in tournament to take part in the playoffs. The Mavs are coming off a 114-108 win over the Miami Heat, snapping a three game losing streak. Luka Doncic is coming off another superb showing after dropping 35 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in the win over the Heat. The performance set a new record as the first player to post four straight triple-doubles with at least 35 points.
