The bottom-placed Detroit Pistons and the ninth-place Chicago Bulls lock horns in the Eastern Conference on Thursday. The Pistons are coming off a heavy 120-102 away defeat to the 76ers on Tuesday, marking their fifth loss in a row. Detroit is now on an ugly run of 13 defeats in their last 14 games and look destined to finish the 2023/24 campaign with the worst record. The hosts’ 13 wins and 66 losses has them trailing the 14th-place Wizards by 1.5 games with only three games left on the schedule. The Pistons will have to make due without a few key players yet again as star point guard Cade Cunningham is unlikely to return this season. Detroit has now lost their last three games by double digits, seeing an average margin of defeat of 15.3 points during that stretch.

Unlike their opponents, Chicago does still have something to play for this season. Chicago’s 37-42 record has them already locked into a spot in the play-in tournament. While they will be unable to catch the eighth-placed Heat, the Bulls will attempt to hold off the 10th-place Hawks from overtaking them in the final few games. Chicago has a one game lead over Atlanta as the Hawks were unable to beat the Heat in a wild double overtime loss last night. The team that finishes ninth will have home court advantage in the 9th vs 10th seed game, so there’s plenty of incentive here. The Bulls suffered their second straight loss in a 128-117 away defeat to the Knicks on Tuesday. It’s been a bumpy past two weeks for Billy Donovan’s squad as they have managed only two victories from their last six outings. With the Pistons, Wizards and another game vs the Knicks to close out the regular season, Chicago will undoubtedly be targeting at least two wins.
