Thursday’s NBA slate kicks off with the 14th-place Detroit Pistons hosting the 11th-placed Brooklyn Nets for this Eastern Conference contest. At 25-37, the Nets’ season now comes down to whether or not they will be able to chase down the 10th-place Hawks for a shot at the postseason through the play-in tournament. Brooklyn currently trails Atlanta by three games with 20 games remaining on the schedule, certainly enough time to make a late run if they can pick up some momentum. Brooklyn could very well do just that as they come into this game off the back of a quality 112-107 home win over the 76ers, their third victory in their last four outings. The recently-acquired Dennis Schroder is settling in quite nicely with his Brooklyn teammates and was a big part of why the Nets were able to get the win on Tuesday. The German-born guard dropped 20 points on an efficient 7/12 from the field while also distributing the ball well and racking up eight assists.

After overtaking the Wizards to shed the “league’s worst team” title, Detroit is now dangerously close to falling right back to the bottom of the barrel. An awful stretch of nine defeats over their last 10 games has them at 9-52 on the season, just a half game ahead of the lowly Wizards in the East standings. Detroit suffered a 118-110 defeat to the Miami Heat on Tuesday and was held to just 38% shooting from the field and 22% from downtown a few days earlier in a 113-91 defeat to the Magic on Sunday. It means the Pistons have now shot just 39% from the field in their last three appearances, all defeats. The hosts haven’t enjoyed much of a home court advantage this season as they’ve posted a 4-25 record at the Little Caesars Arena compared to their road mark of 5-27.
