The Western Conference’s top team the Denver Nuggets face off against the free falling New Orleans Pelicans at the Pepsi Center in Denver for this Tuesday night NBA matchup. Denver sits atop the West with a record of 34 wins and 16 losses, giving them a two game lead over the second-place Grizzlies. However, Denver has suffered back-to-back losses for only the third time this season and have suffered defeat in three of their last four. They are returning home after a tough Eastern Conference road trip which saw them fall 107-99 on the second night of a back-to-back to the Bucks which was followed by a 126-119 defeat in their most recent outing against the 76ers. The Nuggets have been fantastic when playing at home, racking up a 22-4 record at the Pepsi Center. The home advantage that Denver possesses is well known throughout the league, as many teams have difficulty with the increased altitude that comes with playing there. 

The Pelicans have been on an abysmal run of form after previously looking like they would challenge for a top three spot in the conference earlier in the season. New Orleans has lost eight consecutive games, the longest active losing streak in the league. The result has seen the Pels drop down to eighth in the Western Conference with a record of 26-25. They are still within reach of the fourth-place Clippers given how tight the standings are from effectively fourth to 13th-place. New Orleans’ last outing was a 135-100 blowout loss to the Bucks away from home and has moved the Pels away record to an ugly 9-16. Things won’t get much easier for them here as they go from facing one of the East’s best teams to one of the elite teams in the West.
