The Dallas Mavericks host the Sacramento Kings at the American Airlines Center as we approach the end of the regular season. Things really have not worked out the way that the Dallas Mavericks envisioned when they pulled off a sensational trade at the deadline to bring in dynamic point-guard Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. At the time, the NBA world viewed Dallas as potentially having the best backcourt in the entire league with superstar Luka Doncic pairing up with the transcendent ball-handler Irving. However, since the trade the Mavericks have only managed to win seven of their 19 games and have put their playoff chances in real jeopardy. There are only three games remaining in the season and Dallas currently holds the 11th seed, meaning if the season were to end today the Mavs would miss out on even qualifying for the play-in game. A 10th-place finish would ensure that they at least have a shot as they would have to win back-to-back games to claim the eighth seed. Dallas trails 10th-place by only a half game and is coming off a 132-130 loss to the Hawks, their third defeat in a row and seventh loss from the last eight overall.

The Sacramento Kings are on the opposite spectrum as they have steadily been having one of the most surprising season’s in the 2022/23 season. The Kings are close to securing themselves the third-seed after amassing 48 wins and counting. This is the Kings best season since those early 2000s teams with Chris Weber and Mike Bibby and fans will be dreaming of a Cinderella playoff run in what has overall been a very open Western Conference. The “Beam Team” will have to contend with a back-to-back here after picking up a 121-103 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday. To make matters worse, it’s a road back-to-back meaning that we could very well see some tired legs out there, especially being this deep into the regular season.
