Defending champion Iga Swiatek is attempting to reach a third successive Madrid Open. Standing between her and the final is the fourth seed Cori Gauff. Can the American end Swiatek's title reign? Here's our match prediction.

Probably even Swiatek herself is never quite sure what's going to happen next. After two three-setters so far in this tournament, the world number two lost the first set against Madison Keys on Wednesday 6-0. Swiatek bounced back well to win the next two sets for the loss of only five games.

A win over Gauf will take the 23-year-old into her first singles final since winning at Roland Garros last June. Her record against the American is impressive with 11 wins in 14 matches. All five played on clay have been won by the Pole. Only one previous match has gone to a final set.

Cori Gauff has only ever made it to two WTA Tour clay court finals, both in 2021. One title was won, the other saw her be losing finalist at Roland Garros.

Like her opponent, Gauff has lost a set 6-0 in this tournament. That was her first of the event and since then she's won eight in a row. The quarter-finals saw her get the better of Mirra Andreeva 7-5 6-1. We tip Swiatek to win this.
