Cleveland Browns vs Cincinnati Bengals Prediction & Betting Tips - NFL

by Joseph King | in NFL Prediction

A primetime AFC North showdown pits the Cleveland Browns against the Cincinnati Bengals for this Monday Night Football week nine matchup at FirstEnergy Stadium. A string of four consecutive losses has the Browns sitting at 2-5 with their playoff hopes continuing to fade away. Their opponents will be in a completely opposite frame of mind after back-to-back wins has the Bengals back above .500 with 4-3 record. Last season’s AFC champions trail the Ravens by only a game for the division lead and the two teams are set to face off in the final game of the season which could well decide the AFC North winner. Cincy is coming off a 35-17 win over the Falcons in their last outing while the Browns fell 23-20 to the Ravens in a hard-fought loss.

Cleveland Browns - Cincinnati Bengals: Form Analysis

The Browns current four game losing streak is tied with the Packers for the second-worst active streak in the league. However, there were plenty of positives to take away from their narrow defeat to the division leading Ravens in their last game. Cleveland was able to create 336 yards of total offense while limiting the Ravens to just 254, including containing the explosive former MVP Lamar Jackson to only 9/16 for 120 yards in the air. The Bengals played very well against the Falcons in their last outing but Atlanta’s defense is one of the worst in the league in getting to the quarterback. They’ll face off against a better defense this time out that should be able to pressure quarterback Joe Burrow more.

Cleveland Browns & Cincinnati Bengals Squad Analysis

Browns quarterback Jacoby Brissett played fairly well as the team continues to wait for their $230 million quarterback to return to action in Deshaun Watson. Brissett was a very efficient 22 for 27 in his passing attempts against the Ravens, throwing for a total of 258 yards. Although he failed to throw for a passing touchdown, he did manage to protect the ball and didn’t throw an interception. The Browns will need another big performance from running back Nick Chubb who went for 91 yards and a touchdown in the week seven defeat. Chubb has racked up 740 yards on the ground already this season with eight touchdowns.

Cleveland Browns - Cincinnati Bengals Key Points

  1. The Bengals allow the second most sacks on their quarterback per game in the league with Burrow getting taken down 3.6 times per game.
  2. Burrow ranks 23rd of all quarterbacks in passing grade under pressure according to PFF, with five turnover worthy plays and two big time throws.
  3. The Bengals have a middle-of-the-road run defense, ranking 17th with an average of 119 ground yards allowed per game.
  4. The Browns 163.6 rushing yards per game average is the third best in the NFL and they have the second most rushing touchdowns in the league with 12.

Our Cleveland Browns vs Cincinnati Bengals Prediction

We’re going to back the Cleveland Browns on the +3.5 spread as our bet for this game. Getting the hook on this number is important as this game very well could come down to just a field goal. Expect a tightly fought divisional primetime game between two rivals as each team will be desperate for a win. The Browns will look to wear down the Bengals defense with their rushing game while Joe Burrow will be the center of attention for the Bengals offense. There is a chance the Bengals offensive line regresses a bit to the side that we saw earlier in the season as the Browns should be able to pressure the 25-year-old QB.

The Browns like to run the ball which will help them try to control the clock. Two divisional rivals should make for a tight game. This looks to be a 20-17 or 23-20 type of game.
