Charlton host QPR for a mini London Derby in what should be a thrilling League Cup contest. The home side have started the League 1 season positively, claiming a 2-2 draw against Accrington and taking a big win against former Championship side Derby County. Their biggest rival however has been their inconsistency. Specifically, Charlton have had three wins and three losses in their last eight games. Similarly at The Den, they have had four wins and four losses in their last eight home games. The club cannot find stability but they look to have found their groove offensively, scoring fourteen goals in their last six games. They also boast an impressive tradition against Queen’s Park Rangers, whom they have beaten three times on the spin whilst failing to concede a single goal. 

The Hoops have started their new Championship campaign in mixed fashion, losing to Blackburn and then beating Middlesborough in an entertaining 3-2 win. However, they continue to face issues away from home and that could be their undoing in this game as well. Specifically, QPR have won just two of their last twelve competitive away games, losing nine of those and failing to score in seven of those. If that was not enough, they have a poor tradition in their recent away meetings against Charlton, losing their last three and failing to score in all of them. The Hoops had a good run in last year’s edition of the League Cup however, eliminating Leyton Orient, Oxford and Everton before losing against Sunderland in the Round of 16.
