The 13th-place Charlotte Hornets face off against the 11th-placed Brooklyn Nets when the two teams meet for this Eastern Conference Saturday NBA matchup. At 15-48, Charlotte has the fourth-worst record in the NBA. They’re coming off a 112-100 away defeat to the Washington Wizards last night, their sixth consecutive defeat. The Hornets will now have to deal with playing the second leg of a back-to-back and have posted a 2-7 record on the season when playing with no rest. It’s been a difficult season for Hornets fans, especially as their franchise player LaMelo Ball has missed the majority of the season with injury. Ball has played in just 22 games this season and doesn’t appear to have a timetable on his return despite not being listed on the injury report. Without the 22-year-old star, Charlotte has posted just an 8-33 record compared to 7-15 when he takes to the court.

The Nets won’t be giving up on their hunt for the play-in tournament, despite now sitting four games behind the Hawks with under 20 games remaining in the regular season. With a record of 25 wins and 38 defeats, Brooklyn has considerable ground to make up on 10th-place Atlanta who have just ripped off three straight wins. The Nets, meanwhile, fell to a 118-112 loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons in their last appearance and have now lost six of their last 10 games. Since the firing of former head coach Jacque Vaughn on February 19th, the Nets have posted a 4-5 record under interim coach Kevin Ollie. Much of Brooklyn’s struggles this season have come as a result of their poor road performances where they have managed to win in just nine of 29 outings.
