Cambridge United host Southampton at the Abbey Stadium in a game that could be far more treacherous than it seems. Cambridge managed to stun Millwall in the previous round, beating them 1-0 while they also famously eliminated Newcastle with the same scoreline last year for the FA Cup, so they know a thing or two about maximising their role as underdogs. They have not started League 1 in the best of runs however, with two losses, a draw and two wins from their first four games. Cambridge are gathering home form, and now have three wins on the spin at Abbey Road, which succeeded a previous run of just one home win in five. Defence is another issue, with Cambridge conceding in nine of their last eleven home games. 

Southampton look like a team in a trouble at the moment. While experienced coach Ralph Hassenhutl has managed to steer the team out of trouble several times before, reports of issues arising in the dressing room serve only to hinder those efforts. The win against Leicester was a welcome breather for Southampton however, who claimed their first win after a loss and a draw in the Premier League. The absence of Tino Livramento, who was a key figure of Southampton’s good run of form in the first stage of last season has surely cut deep, with the Saints conceding in all of their past nine competitive fixtures. The visitors had a good League Cup run last year, putting eight past Newport, eliminating Sheffield and then losing to Chelsea after penalties for the Round of 16, while they have never faced Cambridge before in a competitive game.
