Tuesday in the Association sees the battle for New York when the Brooklyn Nets host the New York Knicks at the Barclays Center. The Nets are coming off a fourth-quarter collapse against the LA Clippers on Sunday, losing 41-15 in the final 12 minutes to ultimately lose 125-114. It will have been an infuriating result for head coach Jacque Vaughn who saw his Nets team win the first three quarters of the game and take a 15-point lead into the fourth. They now return to Brooklyn in the midst of a downturn in form which has seen them drop out of the play-in spots as they currently sit in 11th-place. It’s been a difficult season for Brooklyn who were expected to be better than their 17-25 record. With eight losses from their last 10 games overall, Brooklyn will have to quickly stop the bleeding or risk seeing the gap between themselves and the 10th-place Hawks increase.

The Knicks face their city rivals with two day’s rest after last playing on Saturday. They ran out 126-100 home winners in that game over the Raptors, marking their third consecutive win. New York has been in a fine run of form lately and have seen their record improve to 26-17, placing them fifth in the Eastern Conference. They trail the fourth-place Cavs by one game and sit 3.5 games behind the third-placed 76ers. Since the trade that shipped RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Raptors in exchange for OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa, the Knicks have won nine of 11 games. The trade has had a clear impact on the team’s defense as New York now ranks eighth in adjusted defensive rating. Additionally, the Knicks have shown an excellent balance as they also rank ninth in adjusted offensive rating, making them dangerous on both sides of the ball.
