The Brooklyn Nets host the LA Clippers at the Barclays Center for this Monday evening NBA clash. The Clippers close out a six game road trip with their second straight game in the Big Apple following their 134-128 overtime victory over the Knicks on Saturday. Los Angeles looks to be finally settling into form now that Kawhi Leonard is back and playing regular minutes. The Clippers have won seven of their last 10 games, nine of which were road games. The recent run has pushed the Clippers road record to above .500 as they now have 16 wins and 15 losses in away games this season. 

The news around Brooklyn for the past few days has been the sudden announcement that star point guard Kyrie Irving requested a trade. The front office moved swiftly ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline and was able to seal a deal with the Mavericks on Sunday to ship Irving to Dallas in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and draft picks. With injuries to a number of key players including Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons, the Nets will again be short-handed for this game as they await the arrivals of their new pieces. However, Brooklyn showed excellent depth to win their most recent game 125-123 over the Wizards with the role players all doing their part. Second-year guard Cam Thomas was the star of the show as the 22-year-old put up a career high 44 points in an offensive explosion to propel his team to victory. The hosts will need a similar team performance if they are to compete with one of the West’s hottest teams.
