Defending champions Barangay Ginebra faces off against Terrafirma Dyip for this Governors’ Cup matchup at the Ynares Center on Wednesday. Barangay Ginebra is eyeing their eighth win of the season as they currently sit third in the standings with a record of seven wins and two losses. This has the Gin Kings even with second-place San Miguel but trailing first-place TNT who top the league with a record of eight wins and only one defeat. Ginebra has ripped off four consecutive wins following its 120-101 blowout victory over a tough Converge team. Barangay also has to worry about fending off the Meralco Bolts and the Magnolia Hotshots for a top four spot in the standings, which comes with it a “twice to beat” advantage in the playoff quarter finals. 

Terrafirma is out of playoff contention as it currently sits second-from-bottom in the standings with two wins and eight losses. It’s been another difficult campaign for the Dyip, which has managed to qualify only once for the playoffs in 18 tournaments since the team’s founding in 2014. They will solely be playing to end the campaign on a winning note which could potentially lift Terrafirma to 10th-place, tying the team’s best finish in the past seven tournaments. Terrafirma comes into this game off the back of a heartbreaking 121-115 overtime loss to the Magnolia Hotshots in their most recent outing. The result is the team's sixth consecutive loss, four of which have come by a margin of at least 15 points as Terrafirma holds the league’s worst defensive record.
