The US Open top seed Aryna Sabalenka continues with her title defence in a quarter-final meeting with Marketa Vondrousova. The two familiar foes will be squaring off for the 10th time, and the winner will face Jessica Pegula or Barbora Krejcikova. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Sabalenka’s superb start extended with a straight-sets win against Cristina Bucsa in the last round. The Belarusian wasn't expected to struggle in the game, and her 6-1, 6-4 win indicates as much.

She has now scaled to a 54-10 record for the season and 30-5 on hardcourts. This run keeps her top in the live rankings and in contention for her fourth title of the season as well as a fourth Grand Slam gong.

In the nine meetings between these two, Vondrousova slumped to five defeats. Her mission here will be to level the head-to-head numbers and qualify for the semis here for the first time ever.

The Czech athlete is 36th in the live rank after a three-set win over Elena Rybakina, having earlier beaten another seeded player, Jasmine Paolini.

She will be confident of stopping the top seed, a player she lost to in August in Cincinnati. This will be their third meeting this year, having earlier faced off in Berlin, where Vondrousova won and marched on to win the title.

At Grand Slam level, this marks a second meeting, Sabalenka having beaten Vondrousova at the 2022 Australian Open.
