Sixth seed Andrey Rublev takes on unseeded Matteo Arnaldi for a place in round four at Roland Garros. The Russian is the world number six but a place higher in the Live ATP Race. He's twice reached the last eight at Roland Garros but has never progressed past that stage. That's been the case with all ten of the Grand Slam quarter-finals he's played. Last year saw him lose at this stage at Roland Garros. He's been in good form this year and recently won the Madrid Masters. Rublev has made it to round three of this outdoor clay court tournament with wins over Taro Daniel (in four sets) and Pedro Martinez. The seeded opponent that could be met in round four is Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Matteo Arnaldi only just missed out on being seeded for this tournament. He's a career-high 35th in the latest rankings but now 42nd in the live rankings. He's dropped down that list because last year he's due to be dropping the points won when winning a clay court Challenger Tour event last June. He entered that because of his second round exit at Roland Garros. That was his first appearance in this Grand Slam and a win here will equal his best ever Grand Slam performance. That was reaching the fourth round of the hard court US Open last year. Arnaldi has reached two clay court quarter-finals this year, one on the ATP Tour in Madrid. He's beaten 29th seed Arthur Fils (in four sets) and Alexandre Muller in straight sets to reach this third round. Rublev won their only previous meeting but this is their first match on clay.
