Two-time Monte Carlo Masters champion Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Alexander Zverev in the third round of this clay court tournament. Tsitsipas is seeded 12th this week with his opponent seven places above him. Seeded opposition will be met in the quarterfinals, either Karen Khachanov (15th) or the fourth seed Daniil Medvedev. Tsitsipas lives in Monte Carlo so it's been extremely pleasurable for him to have won this title in 2021 and 2022. He got to the last eight in 2023 and is playing his first clay court tournament of the year. It's not been the best of years so far for the Greek player with just one semifinal reached. He has won nine of his 14 previous matches against Zverev including two of the last three. On clay, Tsitsipas leads his opponent 4-1 and he beat him here two years ago. So far in this tournament, he's yet to drop a set and lost just one game when beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry in round two.

Alexander Zverev is fifth in the live rankings and seven places ahead of Tsitsipas. In the Live ATP Race, the German is in third place with Tsitsipas in 22nd position. Zverev won the United Cup team tournament with Germany in January. He's been consistent in hard court singles tournaments with three semifinals and a last eight appearance. This is his first clay court tournament of the year and in round two, he beat Sebastian Ofner in straight sets. He's twice reached the last four of this tournament but Tsitsipas has begun well and we go for him to win this match.
