Second seed Alexander Bublik faces the fifth seeded Alexander Shevchenko in the Sud de France Open quarter finals.  Both players don't just have the same christian name but also hail from Kazakhstan. The winner will qualify for a semi-final against either third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, unseeded Arthur Cazaux or wild card Harold Mayot. Bublik was ranked 27th at the start of this tournament and that's only a couple of places below his career high. He's up a place in the live rankings and will set a new career high of 23rd if winning this match. Bublik has already reached one semi-final this year doing so in Brisbane before losing to Jack Draper. He had a disappointing Australian Open being beaten in the first round. A shaky start was made in his only match so far in this tournament. Only one game was won in the first set ast unseeded Denis Shapovalov but he won the next on a tie-break 14-12. The final set was won 6-3 to set up this quarter final.

Alexander Shevchenko was in 59th place when this indoor hard court tournament began. He's up three places in the live list and can rise to 50th if making it to the last four in Montpellier. This is the first time in 2024 that he's got past the last 16 of a tournament. He lost at that stage in Brisbane and then Adelaide. It didn't go so well in the Australian Open as just like his opponent he was beaten in the first round. So far in the Open Sud de France, he's had wins over qualifer Dalibor Svrcina and Gregoire Barrere. Both needed a final set with the middle one being lost. We tip Bublik to win this match.
