The 2025 World Series of Darts Finals kicks off this evening at the AFAS Live, with Luke Littler returning to the iconic venue to commence his title defence against the best players from across the globe. Can the Nuke retain his crown, or will we see a dark horse rise to glory in Amsterdam?

Littler sets off as World Series of Darts Finals 2025 favourite

The eagerly awaited World Series of Darts Finals 2025 is now upon us, with the 32-player tournament scheduled to take place at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam between September 12 and 14.

A total prize pot of  £400,000 is up for grabs, while the winner of the competition will pocket a cool £80,000, and it is the defending champion Luke Littler who heads into the tournament as the clear favourite according to all the best online betting sites.

Littler will kick off his title defence on Saturday’s first round afternoon session, when he takes on veteran Aussie Simon Whitlock, and you can check out our Luke Littler vs Simon Whitlock prediction for all the key stats.

So far, 2025 has been another incredible year for The Nuke, which began with clinching the World Championship at the Ally Pally, where he beat Michael van Gerwen to become the youngest-ever world champion in darts history at 17 years and 347 days.

The teenage sensation also overcame James Wade 11-2 in the final of the UK Open before beating the same opponent again in the World Matchplay final. His only real disappointment was finishing as the runner-up in the Premier League.

Littler now enters this tournament following back-to-back World Series wins, having beaten Mike De Decker and Luke Humphries at the Australian and New Zealand Darts Masters, respectively, last month.

Bunting, Humphries among challengers for WSOD 2025 title

Leading the charge of potential challengers to end Littler’s reign is Stephen Bunting, who enters the tournament as the number one seed thanks to his incredible performances on the World Series of Darts this year.

While his Premier League campaign was underwhelming, Bullet did notch up a nightly win in Berlin, while in the WSOD, he won the Bahrain Masters in January, the Nordic Masters in June, and also reached two finals, here in the Netherlands and in Poland.

However, despite Bunting’s performances, second place in the latest betting odds is held by the world number one Luke Humphries, who is in the opposite half of the draw, meaning that he could meet Littler in the final if they both make it that far.

Cool Hand Luke beat Littler to the Premier League title at the O2 Arena and won the US Darts Masters in June, as well as the 2025 Czech Darts Open title. However, he was beaten by The Nuke in the New Zealand Masters final ahead of this tournament.

Humphries has one of the toughest opening round draws to overcome, though, as he will face James Wade in the opening round on Friday evening. Our Luke Humphries vs James Wade prediction is available, so be sure to check it out ahead of this blockbuster matchup.

Price and Rock not to be overlooked in Amsterdam

While most of the attention will be on the two Lukes again this year, you simply cannot overlook Gerwyn Price as a potential contender, especially given the form the Welshman has been in leading up to the WSOD finals.

The Iceman will be making his 10th consecutive appearance at this competition this year and won it back in 2022. He has already bagged several Players Championship titles in 2025, while also adding the Baltic Sea Darts Open and Poland Darts Masters crowns to his trophy case.

Josh Rock, on the other hand, is enjoying his best season as a pro and will be making his debut at the World Series of Darts finals this year. He also has a tricky opening match, but our experts are leaning toward the Irishman to get the job done, according to our Josh Rock vs Krzysztof Ratajski prediction.

Rocky won the PC10 event earlier this year and partnered compatriot Daryl Gurney to the title at the World Cup of Darts, where they beat Welsh duo Price and Danny Noppert. He also reached the finals at both the UK Open and World Matchplay.
