by Thobelani Moyo in World Cup Predictions
Zimbabwe and South Africa are set to lock horns at Moses Mabhida Stadium on matchday nine of the FIFA World Cup African qualifiers. Zimbabwe is anchored at the bottom of the table in Group C, while South Africa are in second place. Here's our match prediction!
It has been an underwhelming FIFA World Cup African qualifiers campaign for Zimbabwe. With four points accumulated across eight qualifying games, Michael Nees' side are the odd ones out in the group as they've yet to register a win. That has also dashed their hopes of qualification, meaning there's nothing left to play for other than pride.
South Africa's hopes of making it to the World Cup finals are far from assured. Sitting in second place and level on points with table toppers Benin (14 points), the visitors have maintained a three-point cushion against third-placed and fourth-placed Nigeria and Rwanda, respectively. With two games remaining in the qualifiers, they are aware that there's no room for error.

Zimbabwe - South Africa: Form Analysis
Zimbabwe's recent qualifier match was against Rwanda. Despite maintaining 63% of ball possession, Michael Nees' men were undone by Gilbert Mugisha's 40th-minute effort that led to a 1-0 defeat at Orlando Stadium.
In light of that result, the Warriors have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the qualifiers and are winless in eight games. To rub salt into the wound, they've won just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions (D5, L7).
Unfortunately, there's no reason for the hosts to be optimistic heading into this clash, considering their last win against South Africa was in 2013. Since then, they've navigated four games without a win.
South Africa are unbeaten in their last seven competitive meetings against Zimbabwe.
South Africa head into this clash after FIFA decided to deduct three points from them for playing suspended Teboho Mokoena in their 2-0 win over Lesotho back in March. After that ruling, they dropped from first to second place in Group C.
Despite that outcome, Bafana Bafana remain confident about their chances of qualification. Hugo Broos' side are unbeaten in their last seven matches, recording as many as five draws and two wins.
Their latest qualifier match was against Nigeria. There was nothing to separate the two sides as they played to a 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium. This extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to three games.

Zimbabwe & South Africa Squad Analysis
Zimbabwe have no injury concerns heading into this penultimate Group C clash against South Africa. Khama Billiat is expected to feature here after missing the last two qualifier games for his senior national team. The 35-year-old winger has made 54 appearances for the national team. During this period, he has scored 18 goals.
Another marquee player worth watching out for is Knowledge Musona. The midfielder, who has made 52 appearances and scored 25 goals, is expected to dictate the tempo in midfield.
Head coach Michael Nees has also called up two players to strengthen the squad, including Terrence Dzvukamanja and Walter Musona.
Khuliso Mudau and Sphephelo Sithole make their return to the Bafana Bafana squad.
South Africa have named a 23-man squad for their remaining two FIFA World Cup African qualifiers games against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
However, Bafana Bafana comes into this match missing some of its influential players. This includes the omission of Orlando Pirates' Relebohile Mofokeng due to injury and Iqraam Rayners (Mamelodi Sundowns) due to fitness concerns. Both players will be replaced by Mduduzi Shabalala (Kaizer Chiefs) and Evidence Makgopa (Orlando Pirates), respectively.
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Malibongwe Khoza has received his first senior national team call-up. The youngster could earn his first cap this Friday. There are also two key players expected to make their return to the squad, including Khuliso Mudau and Sphephelo Sithole.

Our Zimbabwe vs South Africa Prediction
Zimbabwe's qualification hopes in the qualifiers have all but gone up in flames. The hosts are out to derail South Africa's qualification hopes and hopefully get a chance to register their first win in the qualifiers.
South Africa understands what's at stake if they don't secure maximum points in this clash, given their next fixture is against Rwanda, the only side that has defeated them in this competition. In this fixture, they are currently riding a three-match winning streak. Two of those outings ended with under 3.5 goals. Our Zimbabwe vs South Africa prediction: South Africa to win and under 3.5 goals.
