Wales managed a second place finish in Group A and for the second straight Euro Championship, they advanced to the second round. They will be taking on Denmark, who left it late to qualify for this round, having lost their opening two matches in Group B. Wales lost to Italy in their final group game but a win over Turkey and a draw with Switzerland earlier were all they needed to bank enough points for this stage. In this game they will be without defender Ethan Ampadu, who was sent off against Italy, and having managed just one win in their last five matches, they will be seeking an improvement going forward. In Wales’ last five matches, they’ve failed to score in three, and while they had good chances to score against Italy, they were a bit wasteful. Gareth Bale has been in good form for Wales and his combination with Aaron Ramsey is proving to be troublesome for defences. These two will bear the creative responsibility for the Welsh, as that is the one thing that has been lacking in their game, the team scoring more than one goal in just one of their last eight games.

Denmark’s qualification for the round of 16 is a great story after suffering unfortunate times in the group stages. This is a chance to put things in order for the Danes; in their first game, they had to contend with the scary moment involving Cristian Eriksen before losing the same game to Finland. In the second game, while they gave a lot, they couldn’t hold on to an early lead and lost to Belgium. Advancing to this stage came on the back of an impressive 4-1 win over Russia in their final group game and they will hope it goes smoothly from this point on. Yussuf Poulsen has been a key player for the Danes, with two goals in the group stage, bringing his tally to three in the last five and he will definitely be a star attraction here. The Danes have failed to score in just one of their last 14 matches but have just one clean sheet in the last five matches.
