Second seed Veronika Kudermetova is back in Guadalajara, where she begins her campaign in the second round against qualifier Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva. The winner of their first career meeting will advance to the quarter-finals. Read on to find our prediction for this match.

Kasintseva defeated fellow qualifier Elena Pridankina in straight sets in the first round. She won by the loss of seven games to register only her second main draw victory on the tour this season.

Now with three consecutive victories in this WTA 500 event, the 20-year-old will hope to have enough momentum to register her biggest win. A finalist in two ITF events this year, Kasintseva has improved to 31-22 and jumped 10 places to 113th in the live ranking.

Veronika Kudermetova has two immediate targets as she arrives for her Guadalajara opener against Kasintseva. One is to snap a two-match losing run, and the other is to avoid another early exit in this event.

Kudermetova, who hasn’t won since making the Cincinnati semis, was defeated in this very round here last season. The Russian is coming off a shock first-round exit at the US Open.

Seeded 24th at Flushing Meadows, Kudermetova lost in three sets to the qualifier Janice Tjen. The world number 26 will be keen to put that loss behind her with a deep run in Mexico.
