The 36-25-6 Tampa Bay Lightning will play game two of a five-game road trip at the 36-24-7 Vegas Golden Knights early on Wednesday morning. Vegas has not had a good time of things at home of late. The games have been few and far between at T-Mobile Arena, just 2-5 in their last seven here. Things have fallen apart defensively so the team is relying on trying to outscore their opponents which has not been easy for them. The defense turned up in their most recent game, a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils but the Devils have had a poor season compared to last year. The same can be said of the Knights who started the defence of their Stanley Cup title in flying form but as things stand, they are only in the second wildcard spot in the West. They have to make use of these home games to ensure their presence in the playoffs.
Tampa arrives in Vegas in good heart, winning four of their last five games, scoring 25 goals in them in the process. They won the opening game on this trip at the Florida Panthers, the team that inflicted their worst defeat of the season on them back in February. Having closed out their home stand with a 7-0 thrashing of the Philadelphia Flyers and a 6-3 beating of the New York Rangers, the Lightning are justifiably full of confidence at present. They arrive in Vegas to take on a team who are just 5-9-1 in their last 15 games with defensive struggles suddenly setting in. Nikita Kucherov is second in the league in points with 114, chasing down his career-high of 128 set in the 2018/19 season.
