This clash between Portugal and Uruguay has the potential of being one of the best matches in the 2018 World Cup. Portugal are the current European champions and ranked fourth in the world, ten places ahead of their opponents Uruguay. Portugal only won one of their three group games and but for a late miss by Iran on Monday would have been back home by now. They obviously rely so much on Cristiano Ronaldo who has four goals to date in this tournament but missed a penalty on Monday. Despite being ranked so high in the world, Portugal often find themselves getting frustrated and went 87 minutes against Morocco without scoring. A few flashes of brilliance from Ronaldo could of course change everything but Portugal are going to find this last sixteen match very tough.

Uruguay didn't impress that much in their opening fixture against Egypt and had to rely on a late winner to get the three points. They have improved a great deal since then though with a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia and then hit top form in the group decider when they beat hosts Russia 3-0. They have won their last six games and haven't conceded a single goal in those victories. Their only defeat in the last 12 games was a friendly loss to Austria. Luis Suarez has scored in the last two games and he can help fire Uruguay into the quarter finals.
