Ugo Humbert and Jack Draper, both unseeded, will square off in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Japan Open. This Sunday game will mark their first career meeting, below are some stats and our prediction for this match.

Humbert has improved a lot since arriving in Tokyo and has won both his matches in straight sets. In the run-up to this tournament, the Frenchman had lost five times in eight outings.

In the first round, Humbert defeated crowd favourite Shintaro Mochizuki and then saw off the in-form Brandon Nakashima. The American put up a sterner test than Mochizuki and took five games in the contest.

Humbert, who won titles in Marseille and Dubai, has improved his record to 30-20 and moved to 18th in the live ranking.

Jack Draper has also won his two matches in Tokyo in straight sets. The Briton is having a strong year, so far winning 32 of 52 outings. Draper, who lost in the first round here last year on his debut, arrived on the back of three successive losses.

He snapped that in the first round against qualifier Mattia Bellucci. In the second round, he met a more difficult opponent in second seed Hubert Hurkacz. The 22-year-old would not be fazed by the world number eight and went on to win the tie by the loss of eight games.

Currently ranked 20th in the ATP, Draper has progressed past the quarter-finals four times this season. He has gone on to reach two finals, winning in Stuttgart. 

The winner here will next play Christopher O’Connell, Alex Michelsen, Tomas Machac or Tommy Paul.
