Turkey are on a journey towards recovery after a poor run at Euro 2020 and will be hoping to dominate at home when they host Montenegro in Group G of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. There’s a one-point difference between the two sides in the group; leaders Turkey on seven and Montenegro on six and in third place. Turkey are coming from three straight losses and managed to score in just one of those games. While they started these qualifiers in strong fashion, they head to this game on just one win in the last five and will be hoping their star forward Burak Yilmaz gets firing, after a tough start to the season. They are unbeaten in their last four in the World Cup qualification matches, and carry to the clash an eight-game unbeaten run at home in all competitions. Yilmaz has four goals in the three opening qualification games and will hope to pick up from there, having started this season on a low at his team, Lille. This will mark the first ever competitive meeting between the two nations and either side will want to have the three points on offer.
Montenegro are also coming from three winless outings, having failed to score in two of them and with just a clean sheet in five. They beat lower ranked Gibraltar and Latvia in two of their opening three matches in this group, but in their most recent one, lost to Norway. Three of their last five matches in World Cup qualifiers ended in losses, with both sides scoring in three. In their last outing, Montenegro suffered a 3-1 loss to Israel in a friendly match, and the only positive picked from the home loss is that they managed to break a two-game run without scoring. It was the first time they conceded more than a goal in five matches and Montenegro will look at this as a game they can win. Their main man, Stevan Jovetic, recently moved to Germany, and signed for Hertha Berlin. He has settled fast and already has a goal to his name, and will hope to do better here, after scoring three in the opening three qualification games.
