The final of the 2024 Lyon Open will be contested by sixth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry and the wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. This is the first career meeting between these two, who are both seeking their first career tour titles. Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated Luciano Darderi in straight sets in the semi-finals to advance to his third career ATP final. All three finals have been on clay. The Argentine enjoys playing on clay where more than 280 wins in his career have been achieved. He however hasn’t been as dominant when it comes to championship matches. The 24-year-old, who has compiled a 17-13 record, has lost 16 finals across the three levels. He is currently on a seven-match losing streak in championship fixtures and last won a title two seasons ago in the challenger circuit. A first tour title will see the current world number 29 move into a new career-high world ranking.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is having the ATP tour tournament of his young career. The Frenchman will now play in the first tour final of his career, with the furthest he had previously advanced in a tournament being the quarter-final stage. With the full backing of the crowd, he has been superb. He defeated second seed Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the semi-finals, losing nine games. Perricard had lost to the Kazakh last year in their only encounter and provided the perfect response in their follow-up. He has now won 29 of 40 matches this year with nine coming in 13 outings on clay. Advancing to the final has thrust him up a massive 34 places in the live ranking and into 83rd place, a new career high. Though inexperienced at tour level, Perricard has a strong record in championship fixtures. He has won five of the seven he has contested in his career with three being achieved this year.
