Monday in Major League Baseball sees the AL West second-place Texas Rangers hosting the AL East fifth-place Boston Red Sox. The Rangers find themselves involved in a tight race to make the postseason as we head into the final stretch of the regular season. They currently trail the division leading Astros by just 1.5 games and currently occupy the third and final Wild Card spot. A recent losing streak has Texas just one game ahead of the Mariners and trailing the Blue Jays by a half game. The hosts come into the first of this scheduled three game series against Boston trying to end a three game losing streak. The Rangers were swept by the Cleveland Guardians, with their most recent outing resulting in a 9-2 away loss. Texas will send out Jordan Montgomery to the mound who is 9-11 with an ERA of 3.47. The lefty is coming off a very fine outing which saw him pitch seven innings of shutout baseball in a 10-0 Rangers’ win. 

The Red Sox are all but eliminated from the 2023 postseason. Their record of 74 wins and 76 losses put them 8.5 games behind the Rangers for the final Wild Card spot. They’ll attempt to put an end to a torrid run of form which has seen them lose the last four in a row and eight of the last 10. The Sox were swept by the Blue Jays in their last series and prior to that lost three out of four against the Yankees. Boston were unable to get the run support against Toronto with their last game finishing in a 3-2 loss. Kutter Crawford is the man tasked with leading the Red Sox to a victory. Crawford is 6-7 on the season with an ERA of 4.26.
