Villarreal are still searching for stability two months into the season. That eluded them once again this weekend as they returned from the international break with a 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid. With the result, they’ve now suffered five defeats in their latest seven matches.
They managed two straight wins before the international recess, but those were expected, as they faced Levante and Malaga. Among their losses was a 3-2 reverse in Germany against Dortmund in the previous round. That was the Yellow Submarine’s seventh defeat on the bounce in the Champions League, and it places them in danger of becoming the first Spanish team to lose eight straight games in Europe.
These two teams have met six times, each winning twice and drawing twice.
Napoli continued with their recovery after returning from the international break, beating promoted side Frosinone 3-0. That was their second win in a run of six matches, in which three ended in defeats. One of those defeats was in the opening round of this competition, against Arsenal.
Playing at home, the Italians were condemned to a 1-0 defeat, confirming their fourth winless outing in the Champions League. It doesn’t help the visitors, either, that they have failed to win any of their last six away matches in the CL.

De Bruyne returned from international duty with a brace as Napoli overcame Frosinone 3-0 on Saturday. In nine of his last 10 goal-scoring appearances in UCL, the midfielder scored the opening goal.
