Top seed Taylor Fritz’s push for a first ATP Washington title continues, as he faces Aleksandar Vukic in the second round of the competition. This match will mark the third meeting between the two players and progression will set up the winner against Matteo Arnaldi or Lorenzo Sonego. Read on for our prediction.

The absence of many top players here gives Fritz the advantage. He returns to the court after a first-round bye, having lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semi-final.

The world No. 4 has compiled a 30-12 record, winning three titles and is fourth in the live rankings. The American is here for his fifth appearance and has only reached the semis before.

The odds coming into this fixture will be heavily stacked against Vukic. The Australian’s season has largely been marked by early exits. He rarely makes it past the first two rounds in events he’s participated.

In 20 tournaments at the tour level, Vukic only made it beyond the second round once, at the Australian Open. That too, ended in the third round and he has compiled a 13-23 record so far.

Vukic was, however, impressive in his three-set elimination of Giovanni Mpetchi Perricard in the first round. He trails Fritz 2-0 from their earlier meetings and that, says all about where he will be rated going into this match.
