Week six in the 2023 NFL regular season pits the NFC North first-place Lions against the NFC South leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Detroit has come a long way in just two seasons. They went from a three-win team in 2021 to just missing out on the playoffs last year with a 9-8 record. They’ve started this season with four wins from five games and are heavy favorites to make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Not only that, the Lions find themselves as the seventh-favorites to win the Super Bowl. Dan Campbell’s team cruised past the Panthers last weekend, building upon a 28-10 halftime lead to secure a 42-24 win. It was an extremely efficient performance from the Lions who went 4/4 in the red zone and didn’t commit a single turnover. Detroit also has wins over the Packers, Falcons and Chiefs this season with their one loss coming 37-31 to the Seahawks.

Tampa Bay is one of the surprise teams of the still young 2023 season. Their last appearance saw them comfortably handle New Orleans 26-9, although the Saints were dealing with a banged-up Derek Carr. The Bucs will come into Sunday’s contest with two weeks of rest and prep time following their bye in week four. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is having one of the comeback stories of the year after bouncing around to two other teams following his trade from Cleveland in 2021. The former Oklahoma Sooner has racked up seven touchdowns and two interceptions on 882 passing yards so far. Tampa Bay’s other wins have come against the Vikings and Bears, while they were soundly beaten 25-11 by the Eagles for their only loss. Despite their impressive record, there still remains questions as to just how good this Tampa Bay team is.
