Tip Switzerland - Turkey

Switzerland have been poor at Euro 2020 while Turkey have been the most disappointing to say the least. These two nations are left to fight for scraps in their final Group A match, with Switzerland on one point while Turkey have none. Switzerland are coming from a 3-0 defeat to Italy, where they were completely outplayed and the one point gained against Wales comes handy here as they seek to finish as one of the best finishing third placed sides. The defeat to Italy was the first time in 11 matches that the Swiss have failed to score and that was expected given the quality in the Italy team. As they get to face Turkey, this is a game they are expected to win as they get here with just one defeat in nine matches – they have six wins in that run. Also, Switzerland have the chance to avenge the 2-1 loss to Turkey at home in Euro 2008 as well as seek a first win in three meetings with the Turks. They will also be concerned about their defending going to this game. Their only clean sheet in the last five matches, has been against Liechtenstein, while seven of their last 10 matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Turkey have suffered straight losses in their opening matches at the competition and will be hoping to get one in their final group game. They were completely outplayed by Italy in a 3-0 loss, then failed to make use of their chances against Wales and suffered a 2-0 loss in a game they were expected to win. It could have been worse against Wales were it not for Gareth Bale missing a penalty. Burak Yilmaz, considered the leader at Turkey, was a big letdown against Wales, missing a good chance and getting booked for a late brawl. He has so far failed to inspire the team and Senol Gunes’ side is still searching for the first goal at the competition. For a team that came to this competition having scored two or more in five of six matches, they’ve really underperformed in attack. Now they’ve failed to score in three of their last four matches and the only win they have in that run was against Moldova. In the last six matches, they have two wins, and these have come against much lower ranked nations – Moldova and Azerbaijan.

Key points Switzerland - Turkey

  • Turkey have failed to score in three of their last four matches.

  • Turkey have two wins in their last six matches.

  • Switzerland have failed to score in one of their last 10 matches.

  • Switzerland have one loss in their last nine matches.

  • Switzerland have one clean sheet in the last five matches.

Conclusion Switzerland - Turkey

Switzerland haven’t kept many clean sheets and neither have Turkey. Both sides go to this game seeking to win and we don’t expect very tight defensive formations out there. With their defensive outputs already seen, this promises to be a high scoring affair, so back it to produce more than two goals.
