Switzerland and Spain came out tops in really explosive and exciting last 16 match ups and after both having to go all the way to extra time, will be hoping to finish this in regular time. Switzerland eliminated the world champions, France, and did it in style after coming through nervy moments. They took an early lead, lost it early in the second half and had to rise from two goals down, drawing 3-3 at full time, going all the way in extra time and winning 5-4 of post match penalties. After struggling in the early stages of the competition, Switzerland have found their footing, not defensively though; they still have issues to solve there. They managed one goal in the opening two matches but have scored six in the last two, but defensively, they’re still searching for their first clean sheet. Each of their last three matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Spain are also coming from two high scoring games, higher than Switzerland’s and will also come carrying defensive concerns after their 5-3 win over Croatia. They came from down in their last 16 game against the 2018 World Cup runners up to win it but had to deal with a late breakdown that saw them end 3-3 in regular time, a game they led 3-1 on 84 minutes. Two goals in extra time settled it though and no doubt they will be working on bettering their defence in the quarters. Spain have scored 10 goals in the last two matches, also growing from a slow start to the competition that saw them score just once in the opening two games. They are getting at their attacking best and with two clean sheets in the four matches played, they can afford to hold the favorites’ tag going to this game. Spain are unbeaten in their last 12 matches and with better defending than what they had against Croatia, they will easily walk off with a win here. Against Croatia was the first time in 28 matches for Spain to concede more than two goals. The last team to score three against them was Croatia in 2018.
