Slovakia’s shock win over Poland threw Group E wide open especially after Sweden frustrated Spain to a 0-0 draw. In the second round of matches, Sweden will be taking on Slovakia, with both looking at this as a winnable clash after their fortunes in the opening round. Sweden were conservative against Spain and will be very pleased with their performance in Seville. Heading to Russia for the second game, they should be targeting to go a step better and win but they will have to put up a stronger performance. Drawing with Spain was down to their hosts’ wastefulness, as well as their goalkeeper’s brilliance. Slovakia had a man advantage for the final 28 minutes against Poland and their winning goal came during this time. While there’s no taking anything from Milan Skriniar’s goal, for Slovakia, the opening goal was fortuitous and set the ground for their victory.
