Standard Liege didn't have too bad a season in the end last year. They finished sixth in the main league qualifying for the championship group in which they only lost one of ten games and were runners-up behind Bruges. They also won the Belgian Cup last year and recently lost 2-1 to Bruges in the Super Cup. Pre-season wasn't too successful with a few defeats but now they start a new league season. Home form was strong last season with just one defeat in 15 in the main league and four wins and a draw in the championship group. It was away form that took them out of title contention last season losing seven on the road.

Gent have played nine pre-season friendlies and won eight and drawn one of them scoring 32 goals and conceding just five. Now for the real games though and last season Gent finished fourth in both the main league and the championship group. Away form wasn't great last season with five wins, five draws and five defeats in the main league. Liege have had a couple of wins over Gent in recent months and can get another win here.
